Importance of CAD
Learning CAD is a crucial skill for anyone who wants to go into the field of engineering. CAD serves the purpose of fulfilling the very important step in the engineering process: designing and visualizing the machine that is to be made. CAD allows for accurate models to be made with accurate measurements which allows the building of the machine to be smooth and these models can even be 3D printed to assemble a machine. These courses will teach the fundamentals of CAD.

Fusion 360
The Fusion 360 course focuses on the development of basic CAD skills. No previous experience is required for this course. By the end of this course, students will be able to make simple designs in Fusion 360 with moving parts. The main advantage of Fusion 360 is the moving parts. This allows for models that are very representative of a machine and can help with accurate builds once the machine is to be made.
This course is a 4 week long course with classes every Wednesday and Friday 4:30pm to 5:30pm Pacific Time.
Requirements include: Must have a laptop that can operate Winows, MacOS, or Linux and have 4GB of free disk space for the program. Having a mouse is strongly recommended.

Onshape
The onshape course is a great way to start off learning about CAD. There is no need for previous knowledge about CAD, only knowledge about how to operate a computer. The main advantage to onshape is that you do not need to download anything, and everything can be accessed straight from your browser. This also means that a high end pc is not needed to use onshape to its full potential.
This course is a 6 week long course with classes every Thursday 5:00pm to 6:00pm Pacific Time.
Requirements include: Must have a laptop that can operate Winows, MacOS, or Linux or a chromebook. Having a mouse is strongly recommended.

TinkerCAD
TinkerCAD is truly the most basic of CAD design programs. No downloads are needed since it runs for free in your browser. The software is very beginner-friendly and is made for small children. No prior experience is required just a basic understanding of how computers work. In the end students should be able to create simple objects and scenes of their own design.

Inventor
Autodesk Inventor is a powerful software that is used in professional environments to design products, and assemble complex assemblies. This course aims to teach the basics of Inventor and introduction to advanced features. By the end of this course, you will be able to design parts, and be ready to explore more advanced features. No previous CAD experience is required.
This course is a 8 week long course. Please check the "Virtual Event" section in the San Jose Public Library site for upcoming courses.
